Midtown proudly presented a Reading Series of New Works October 2011 at SOPAC.
- We presented Significant Others, a new play by Jason Odell Williams. This 2 person serio/comedic play follows one man as he navigates the women in his life - all played by the same actress. Directed by Jeremy Dobrish. Starring Joel de la Fuente and Sandy Rustin.
- We presented The Rubber Room, a new play by Gary Garrison and Roland Tec. This 5 person, 1 act play explores the struggle of suspended NYC public school teachers. Designed to be played in rep with multiple actors all cast in the same role, part of the fun of this theatrical experiment is that on any given night of performance, different actors performed together for the first time. MDR presented back to back readings of this play, touched by 2 different directors (MDR members, Matthew Shepard Smith & Adam Dannheisser,) and performed by 2 different groups of MDR actors who were selected from a hat prior to the performance.
- We presented How Deep is the Ocean, a new musical by sister and brother team, Pia and Peter Cincotti. This large scale, 2 act musical can be described as "An Environmentally Friendly Jersey Shore Middle Aged Love Story. A Beach. A Bar. A Broad." Directed by Jeremy Dobrish.

Midtown Direct Rep invites you to attend a "Grand Opening" performance of Rated P ... For Parenthood. Join us Opening Weekend, Friday, March 2, 2012 for a special MDR fundraiser.
In a gorgeous benefit performance, Tony Nominee and Midtown Direct Rep company member, Christiane Noll, performed her incredible one woman show, "The Lyrics of Ira Gershwin" to a sold out crowd on the SOPAC main stage. The performance and accompanying Broadway Themed Silent Auction raised over $30,000 to benefit MDR's future productions.
To celebrate the holidays, Midtown Direct Rep, presented a staged reading of Ben Winters' delightful and irreverent family friendly tale of Hannukah, "A Great Big Miracle." Starring MDR company members and several fantastic guest artists, the show was a hit! Look for it again in December of 2012. Check back for details!
Two time Tony Award winning actor and Midtown Direct Rep company member, Norbert Leo Butz, premiered his phenomenal one man show, "An Evening of Music with Norbert Leo Butz & Friends" to a sold out crowd on the SOPAC main stage. Proceeds from this performance funded MDR's developmental workshop of "Rated P ... for Parenthood."
In August - Sept 2010, Midtown Direct Rep kicked off its inaugural season by presenting staged readings of 2 new works: "Rated P ... for Parenthood" and "The Girl in the Frame." Launching MDR into the Maplewood/South Orange artistic community, the readings proved to be the perfect introduction of artists to community.
