THE SUFFRAGETTE'S MURDER
The Suffragette's Murder, a comedic play commissioned by Florida Studio Theatre as part of a grant to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the U.S. through the arts, was selected by the Denver Performing Arts Center for their 2023 Colorado New Play Summit and subsequently chosen for their upcoming season. It is the recipient of the Denver Center Theatre Company’s Women’s Voices Fund and was awarded the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. The Suffragette's Murder premiered in 2025 at DCPA and was called "A New American Classic" by Broadway World.
In this 1857 period comedy, the boarders at a vegetarian boarding house in Manhattan ready themselves to pull off an elaborate scheme in the name of the budding women’s movement, only to come face-to-face with the news of the untimely death of one of their fellow suffragists.
“If laughter is the best medicine, then playwright Sandy Rustin has healed countless people.”
